Police in Pennsylvania are investigating what led a woman to murder her fiancé on her wedding day. Na Cola Darcel Franklin was arrested early Saturday morning after repeatedly stabbing her fiancé, Billy Rafeal Brewster, in his apartment.
The pastor who was supposed to marry Franklin and Brewster discovered the bloody scene and immediately called authorities. Brewster was stabbed twice in the torso and later died from his injuries. Franklin claimed it was an accident and reportedly told authorities, "I did not kill him on purpose."
Neighbors were stunned by the news of Brewster's death.
"I was really shocked. It made me sick to my stomach. I didn't think there were any issues there," neighbor Sara Arnold told LeighValleyLive.com.
The couple reportedly lived together, with children, for one year without any incident or public dispute. As of press time, the motive for the stabbing is unknown, though Franklin is being held without bail on one count of criminal homicide.
"I'm not going to get into the details," District Attorney Jim Martin told reporters about his client's actions. "It's part of the ongoing investigation."
The case is eerily similar to that of Estrella Carrera, who was found stabbed to death in her bathtub days after her wedding. Carrera was still wearing her wedding dress when authorities discovered her body. Her husband, Arnoldo Jimenez, was charged with first-degree murder and "unlawful flight to avoid prosecution" after fleeing the area.
It's unknown what led to the stabbing, though Carrera's sister told authorities Jimenez had called his sister and told her he left Carrera bleeding after a "bad fight." Jimenez was described by Jazmin Carrera as "very possessive" and not a good match for her sister.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Jimenez. According to the FBI's website, Jimenez "may have fled to Durango, Mexico… and also has ties to Texas and North Carolina."
