Bukola Elemide a.k.a Asa was at Lagos High Court, Ikeja yesterday June 28, for a case she instituted against a Lagos soft sell, News of People in 2010.
The magazine published a story in 2010 alleging that the ‘Bibanke’ crooner was involved in lesbianism act with her manager, Janet Nwose.
Earlier in February 2012, Asa and her manager, Janet Nwose had in the suit against the publishers of the publication, urged the court to declare that the statement and picture in the December 14-22 edition of the magazine, entitled “Lesbianism Tale Trails Asa and Manager” was defamatory.
However, the media house in their statement of defence, said words complained of by the claimants were not defamatory, adding that the defendant as journalist and in pursuance of his Constitutional role under Section 22 and 39 of the Constitution, have a duty to inform the public on issue that are of public interest.
Asa is slamming a 700million naira law suit with case number LD/208/010, on News of the People.
Asa’s first appearance in court was April 26, 2012 where it was reported that the pop sensation’s bodyguards went wild in court harassing journalists who wanted to take photos of her.
