Kansas man gets prison for threatening Obama

A Hutchinson, Kan., man was sentenced to two years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to threatening the president in 2009

Michael Scott Ramsey, 27, sent two letters to the staff of the state psychiatric hospital at Larned in which he threatened the president. In one he wrote, “I am going to kill Barrack (sic) Obama...and this is Michael Ramsey telling you this.”

In the second letter he wrote, “...if I ever get the chance I’ll take his life.”

A psychiatric evaluation at the FBI detention center in Los Angeles last fall concluded there was no evidence that Ramsey had a mental disorder that precluded him from understanding that was wrong. He was sentenced in federal court in Wichita.
