Former Google VP Marissa Mayer newest Yahoo CEO

In an interesting turn of events, longtime Google executive, Marissa Mayer, tendered her resignation with the Mountain View-based search giant to help revive poor fledgling Yahoo Inc. as their President and CEO starting Tuesday.
This is a surprising move, given that for years Yahoo has struggled to obtain top C-level talent. Even more surprising for Google, given their dominance within the search – or Internet – industry. You could say Mayer is going to help rescue the underdog out of a pile of rubble.
Mayer was an instrumental asset at Google – she was the 20th employee and sat on their operating committee. While managing over 1,000 product and project managers, Mayer played a crucial role in Gmail, Google News, Google Images, and Google Maps success.
Interestingly, Mayer was hired as Google’s first engineer nearly 13 years ago. She has played a high-profile appearance, serving as the face of the company during keynotes and in magazines. Mayer left Google as the Vice President of Local Services.
Undoubtedly, Mayer has a long road ahead as the newest CEO of Yahoo. Replacing Scott Thompson, who resigned after only four months because of his questionable credentials, Mayer has the chance to rebrand the company and take Yahoo to the next level. After Carol Bartz and Jerry Yang, Yahoo’s leadership has been on a rocky road ever since.
At Yahoo, Mayer tells reporters she has plans to leverage the company’s email, finance, and sports brands while pushing the company’s video, mobile, and broadband initiatives. Perhaps Mayer’s innovative, fresh approach is just what the doctor ordered.
