Nigeria To Manufacture Heavy Equipment By Year-End



The aquatic life of Amukpe community in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the Delta State has been reduced to crude oil debris as a result of leakages from an underwater pipe belonging to the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Galaxy News visited the community which use to be heaven for fishermen and dealers in fish business and spoke with the community leaders and fishermen counting their losses.

Speaking on the effect of the oil spill in the Ethiope River,  The president general Amukpe community Mr. Believe Edeki disclosed that the source of their drinking water has been contaminated while fishes are no where to be found.
                                     
Speaking further, Mr. Edeki call on the State and Federal Govt. To help clean their source of livehood and send relief materials to the community.

Also speaking, a community fisherman and a leader in Amukpe community stressed that fishing business in the Ethiope River has stopped as a result of the pollution, and that some of their people lost their lives in a similar incident last year.
                                         
Meanwhile, at the bank of the River Ethiope close to the bridge linking Amukpe to warri, dead fishes could be seen on the surface of the River as a result of contaminated water, while the community have been deserted except for individuals packing their belongings to seek greener pastures in warri and neighbouring communities.
