United close in on Henriquez

Universidad de Chile have announced that Chilean starlet Angelo Henriquez will join Manchester United by the end of the month.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to have targeted Henriquez after losing out on Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura during the current transfer window.

The 18-year-old striker has also attracted the attention of Manchester City after scoring an impressive 11 goals in just 17 league games this year for the Chilean top-flight club.

He is currently in Europe with Universidad's youth team and Ferguson has taken the opportunity to meet with the teenager in an attempt to convince him to make the switch to England.

But according to Henriquez's employers, a reported £3.5million deal to join United is at the end stages, with the forward believed to be undergoing a medical with the 19-time English champions.

"Angelo Henriquez will join Manchester United this month," read an statement released by Universidad.

"The player is physically and mentally prepared to take this determining step in his career."

Club president Jose Yuraszcek added: "Manchester United's representatives told us that it was fundamental for them to take him now."

Henriquez's proposed move will increase Ferguson's already wealth of striker options, Robin van Persie having recently joined Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez at Old Trafford.
