Newt Gingrich: Obama is 'not a real president'

Serial adulterer Newt Gingrich has now doubled-down on his “food stamp president” characterization of President Barack Obama during the Republican Party primary elections earlier this year. Holding forth on Fox New’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” last Tuesday, Newt opined that Obama is a “false president,” a “part-time president,” and…wait for it…a “lazy” president.
What’s with these guys? The Donald Trumps of the world – king of the “birthers.” The John Sununus of the world – Obama must “learn to be an American.” As Washington, D.C. radio talk show host Joe Madison said today on Al Sharpton’s “Politics Nation” MSNBC program, these three - Newt, Trump and Sununu - act like “the Three Stooges on steroids.”
“He really is like the [NFL] substitute referees in the sense that he’s not a real president. He doesn’t do anything that presidents do, he doesn’t worry about any of the things the presidents do,” Gingrich said. “But he has the White House. He has enormous power. And he’ll go down in history as the president, and I suspect that he’s pretty contemptuous of the rest of us.”
But Newt was just getting started. He actually gave Obama a backhanded compliment, calling him the “perfect president” during this the “age of false celebrity-hood.”
But then he went deep, really deep. The man who led the charge to impeach former President Bill Clinton, who called Clinton every thing but a child of God, the man who decried Clinton’s “sexual indiscretions” with a White House intern while conducting his own clandestine extramarital affair at the very same time….this man had the nerve to say:
“Hillary Clinton is a serious person. Barack Obama is an ambitious person. They’re very different personalities. Hillary Clinton gets up every day thinking about public policy. Barack Obama gets up everyday thinking about Barack Obama. They’re very different approaches to life. And I think those of us who are his critics need to get over it and understand this is who is president. This is a man who in the age of false-celebrity hood is sort of the perfect president because he is a false president. He is a guy who doesn’t do the president’s job.”
Gingrich’s remarks are nothing more (nor less) than an updated version of the same-old/same-old. The same old race-based, anti-black, “dog whistle” politics that Richard Nixon and the Republican Party initiated and have consistently, unceasingly employed since the introduction of their “Southern Strategy” in 1968.
Newt Gingrich, John Sununu, Donald Trump, and their Tea Party/right-wing Republican Party cohorts, refuse to enter the 21st century. These are the people, remember, who want to “take our country back.” Back to a time when life was much simpler -- when only white men like them ran the world -- you know, "real" men.
